Marina Abramovic

Marina Abramovic’s latest performance piece, The Artist is Present, ended a couple weeks ago. Abramovic had been sitting at Moma seven hours a day, six days a week for three weeks. Viewers were allowed to sit across from her for however long they wanted to if they chose to do so. Personally I’ve never been all that comfortable with performance art pieces. Maybe it was my own unease with public speaking / performance, but watching performance pieces, even back in art school, made me quite uncomfortable. Ofcourse that may have been the point – to provoke emotions that were not always pleasant. Be sure to visit the Moma flickr stream for more photographs.

I saw this work, it was an amazing experience. So intense, and so thought invoking. Was incredible, an incredible artist.

I would have loved to have seen it in person. Although I’m not sure I would’ve been brave enough to sit with her.
